Three arrested for gas station double murder
Three persons are now in custody following a late night shooting at a gas station in Morant Bay, St Thomas, on Saturday, which left two persons dead.
The names of the persons arrested have not been released.
The dead persons have been identified as 49-year-old Christopher Higgins and 22-year-old Katherina Brown.
Brown was employed at the service station as a cashier.
According to the Corporate Communication Unit (CCU) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, three men in Suzuki motor vehicle pulled up at the gas station, and fired several shots, hitting Higgins. The police said Brown, who was inside the building, was chased and shot several times.
As the men tried to make their escape, they were chased by the St Thomas police. The high-speed chase ended in Mountain View, St Andrew, where the men abandoned the vehicle.
Reports are that as the men made their way through Mountain View on foot, they engaged the police in a gun battle.
According to CCU, swift investigations led to three persons being taken into custody.
The service station, which is located on Red Hills main road in Morant Bay, is owned by a prominent businessman from St Thomas.
In October 2015, a cashier, Tenesha McCool, was shot and killed at the same service station.
