Man sentenced for illegal ammunition
A St Catherine man who was held with 26 rounds of 7.62 calibre rounds of ammunition was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment in the St Catherine Parish Court.
He is Leroy Whyte, a 23-year-old labourer of Macca Tree district, Browns Hall.
After hearing the sentence handed down, a female who had accompanied Whyte to court fainted and had to be revived by police personnel.
Clerk of Court Viviene Fagan had outlined that in April this year, police personnel, acting on information, conducted a raid at the accused home.
During a search of premises he occupied, a pillow was searched and the ammunition which is used in AK-47 rifles was located in cornmeal in a piece of PVC pipe.
He was subsequently charged with illegal possession of ammunition.
Whyte pleaded guilty to the offence.
