Cops probe 'Roots Man' shooting
The St Andrew Central police are investigating the circumstances that led to the death of an unidentified man last Friday night in Papine Square.
Information reaching THE STAR is that the man, known only as Roots Man, was shot by a licensed firearm holder, who intervened in a dispute between him and a female.
Roots Man was shot while he repeatedly chopped a woman in her head and upper body.
It was initially believed that he was shot by the police. The incident occurred about 7:20 p.m.
THE STAR gathered that Roots Man ignored several attempts by the licensed firearm holder and other bystanders to desist from inflicting wounds on his victim before he was fatally shot.
The woman was rushed to the nearby University Hospital of the West Indies.
Checks by our news team yesterday confirmed that the woman was still being treated at hospital in stable condition.
