Section of Bustamante bridge collapses
The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists travelling along the Bustamante Highway in Clarendon, between Glenmuir Road and the road to Vernamfield, to proceed with caution as a section of the roadway in the eastbound lane has collapsed.
According to communications and customer service manager at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, the roadway failed earlier this afternoon, and an NWA team is currently at the location assessing the damage.
Shaw said the roadway has been reduced to single lane traffic, and he is urging motorists to obey the instructions of the NWA officers on location as they try to direct vehicles around the undermined area.
The cause of the failure has not yet been determined. To avoid any delays, motorists heading towards Kingston from Mandeville can turn left at the Four Paths roundabout and travel along Muirhead Avenue up to Glenmuir Road.
