Fish vendor held with firearm
One man has been arrested and charged in connection with the seizure of a firearm and several rounds of ammunition on Nelly Lane in Top Hill, St James, last Monday.
Reports from the Montego Hills police are that at about 10 p.m., a team of police officers was on patrol in the area when a man was seen sleeping on a stone along the roadway. He was accosted and searched, and the firearm, a 9mm Beretta pistol, with a magazine containing ten 9 mm rounds of ammunition was taken from the jacket he was wearing.
He is 26-year-old Kemar Sawyers, a fish vendor from Top Hill. He is charged with illegal possession of a firearm.
Sawyers is scheduled to appear before the Western Regional Gun Court in the parish on October 11.
