Man charged with conning JDF hopefuls
A St Catherine man who allegedly collected a quantity of money from persons under the guise that he could get them into the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) has been charged with fraud.
The Spanish Town police have charged Germaine Vassell with three counts of obtaining money by means of false pretence.
Police investigations indicate that between August and September 2017, Vassell allegedly collected $4,000 each from three complainants, who were attempting to become JDF soldiers.
To convince his victims he was legitimate, he reportedly gave them uniforms.
However, after the recruitment date passed and the monies were not returned, the police were contacted.
An investigation was launched and checks with the JDF revealed that Vassell has no affiliation with the organisation. The uniforms are being checked for verification.
He is booked to appear in the St Catherine Parish Court on Friday, March 23 to answer the charges.
