Man fined $20,000 for having a good time
A St James man, who hit a female bartender with a water bottle and damaged a bottle of vodka, was ordered to pay a fine of $20,000 when he appeared in the St James Parish Court.
Kevin Anglin pleaded guilty to the charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and malicious destruction of property when he appeared before presiding parish judge Kacia Grant.
The court was told that on March 24, Anglin was a patron at the complainant's bar, when he threw a water bottle at her, hitting her on the head. The accused man also damaged a bottle of vodka valued at $3,000.
"Sir, was J. Wray & Nephew involved in this?" judge Grant asked Anglin, after the incident was outlined by the clerk of the court.
"We were just having a good time," Anglin replied.
"That 'good time' is going to cost you," Grant replied.
It was also revealed that, following the incident, Anglin repaid the complainant the full cost of the vodka which he had destroyed.
Grant subsequently ordered Anglin to pay a $20,000 fine or spend 20 days in prison on the assault charge. He was admonished and discharged on the charge of malicious destruction of property.
