Roadworks to cause traffic changes
The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising the motoring public that traffic will be diverted from a section of Constant Spring Road to facilitate pipe-laying works between the Oakwood Apartments and Shortwood Road.
The traffic change will affect motorists travelling in the south-bound lane towards Half-Way Tree and will be in place for the next seven days.
The work was scheduled to begin yesterday.
Motorists will be re-directed on to Central Avenue, East Avenue, then Goodwood Terrace to exit on to Constant Spring Road in the vicinity of Telstar Cable Limited.
Acting Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Ramona Lawson, explained that as activities increase on the major road construction projects across the Corporate Area, motorists should, from time to time, expect traffic restrictions along some sections of the affected corridors in aid of advancing the works.
She explained that a major part of the current activities on both the Hagley Park Road and Constant Spring Road improvement projects involves the installation of sewer and water pipes as well as storm water culverts.
These works, she said, are being undertaken in some sections along the centre of the existing roadway, which makes lane restrictions unavoidable.
Similar works are currently being carried out along Hagley Park Road between Waltham Park Road and Queen's Avenue. Where works are in progress, the NWA endeavours to maintain two driving lanes, where possible, and will provide suitable alternate routes where lanes have to be closed temporarily.
Pipe-laying works on both major projects are expected to go on for the next few months.
Motorists are being reminded to proceed with caution through the construction zones and obey posted warning signs and the instruction of flag persons.
