Cop slapped with lottery scamming charges
A police constable assigned to the St. James Division was arrested for lottery scamming on Wednesday.
The cop, Derrol Williams, was also charged with causing a false declaration to be made to customs and illegal possession of firearm.
Reports from the anti-lottery scam task force are that about 12:35 p.m., on December 27, 2017, an alleged associate of Constable Williams arrived at the Sangster International Airport on a flight from Orlando International Airport. During a search of the associate's luggage by customs officers, more than US$14,000 (approximately J$1,813,985) was found and seized.
Further investigations led to a search of the associate's phone,which revealed conversations between Constable Williams showing receipts from a remittance agency and approximately 10 pictures of credit cards.
