If you are wishing for some good food and a nice vibe when travelling in the Bluefields area of Westmoreland, The Luna Sea Inn is the perfect place to stop, eat and relax for a while.

The beachfront mini-hotel is one of the best places to get some authentic Jamaican food, such as curry goat, oxtail and jerk chicken.

Owner Linda Chidester describes it as a unique boutique hotel. Currently, there are 10 rooms, nine of which are beach-front. There is also a restaurant, sports bar and mini kiddies' pool.

On arrival, the team was greeted by Chidester and later brought to the restaurant, where we enjoyed some of the best that Jamaican cuisine had to offer.

The oxtail was mouthwatering and if only the bone could be swallowed, one team member wouldn't mind. The chicken Alfredo that I ordered was cooked to perfection.

As much as I wanted to eat all of it, because it is that good, I could only go halfway; the serving only looked small, but was really a food mountain I just couldn't climb.

I had to wave my white flag and ask for a box to put the rest in.

The staff was very pleasant and ensured that everything was to our liking.

Taking on the task of acquiring the property four years ago, Chidester said that it was a risk but one that she was happy that she took.

"You have to be crazy to start a business at my age (68 at the time). Because, even the name of the hotel (Luna) means crazy. I actually got it from a boat my daughter had. Her boat was called Luna Sea ... and that is what I thought of what I did," she laughed.

Even though it is not an all-inclusive hotel, she said that it did not deter people from stopping by because the vibe and energy from the staff is more than enough to keep them wanting more.

FACILITY TOUR

When we finished eating, we were given a tour of the facilities. From the outside, it looks small but as we toured, we saw how much space there was.

The rooms, depending on the season, may cost US$160 per person per night plus tax, which includes breakfast, and sports events such as kayaking and snorkelling.

If staying for the night is not what you desire, no worries, there is the beach right beside the hotel where you can go and relax, after which I encourage you to visit the restaurant.

I implore you not to visit this area alone; it is best enjoyed with friends or your other half.

One of the best things about Luna Sea Inn is the sunset view. With a gazebo right at the sea-front, you can go there for a romantic time with your partner and watch the sun take cover.

Lovely rooms and delicious food are not all that the Inn has to offer, as throughout the three years that she has been in business, they have done parties, weddings and various functions in the ballrooms they have.

"I love children so I have to put things in place for them. So I have the high chairs and a mini-pool they can play in and since school is out; I am planning movie nights," she said.
