JUTA driver dies in motor vehicle crash
Chelsie Malcolm, a 28-year-old JUTA operator of Cousins Cove, Hanover, died as a result of injuries she received in a motor vehicle accident on Lances Bay main road in the parish on Wednesday, August 14.
Reports from the Lucea Police are that about 11:30p.m., Malcolm was driving along the road way when she lost control of the vehicle and hit a utility pole. The police were alerted and on their arrival she was transported to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Statistics from the Road Safety Unit indicate that as of August 15, some 273 persons have been killed from a total of 248 fatal crashes.
Fatal crashes have increased by 22 per cent when compared with similar period in 2018. Some 389 died on the nation's roads last year, and the Road Safety Unit is projecting that 400 persons will die in motor vehicle crashes this year.
Kenute Hare, director of the Road Safety Unit, is urging all road users to take road safety seriously. He said that the majority of road crashes are related to bad driving practises.
