10-y-o dies after being hit by car
A 10-year-old boy died at the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital on Sunday night from injuries he sustained after being hit by a motor car along the Dunbar River main road in Westmoreland earlier that day.
The child has been identified as Jotwain Johnson, a student of Unity Primary School.
Reports by the Westmoreland police are that about 3:15 p.m., Jotwain was walking along a section of the road in the vicinity of the Petcom Service Station when he attempted to cross the roadway.
Immediately, the lights turned green, and 28-year-old Nicoy Smith, a security guard of Cave district in the parish, drove his blue Toyota Corolla motor car through the intersection.
Jotwain, who was already in the middle of the roadway, was mowed down by the motor car.
He sustained head and body injuries and was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.
He succumbed to his injuries at approximately 10:45 p.m. Smith has since been warned for prosecution.
