Jahnoy Dacres was looking forward to starting school today. The 16-year-old boy would be entering Grade 10 at Glengoffe High School, and according to his mother, Sandra Sand, he was very excited.

But yesterday, tragedy struck.Jahnoy along with his brothers, 13-year-old Masters Dacres, and 30-year-old Anthony Dacres were home in Bamboo Ridge, St Catherine, picking guineps from a tree when lightning struck, hitting Jahnoy and his 13-year-old brother.

Police reports are that Jahnoy was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. His 13-year old brother remains hospitalised.

Sand told THE STAR that she was at her home in Linstead, St Catherine, when she got the news.

"I don't live with them, they live with their father. When I hear the news, I was shocked," she said.

"They were under a guinep tree when the lightning flashed, they were picking the guineps off the limb, when the lightning lick him," she added.

Sand said Jahnoy was the seventh of her eight children, and she will remember his kindness most.

"He was a wonderful son, very willing. I'm going to miss him so much," she said.
