Rising Stars winner plans to help Point Hill Primary School
Sherlon Russell, the 2019 Digicel Rising Stars winner, is making plans to give back to his old school with $1.5 million in grant funding from the Digicel Foundation.
The 23-year-old from Point Hill, St Catherine, is aiming to 'pay it forward' by giving a boost to the library at Point Hill Primary School, which he attended as a boy.
"I know the children need more help doing their research for projects and assignments," said Sherlon, "so I would like to use the funds to make improvements to the library."
The soft-spoken singer said that he had a positive experience at the school and "would like to help create an even better experience for future generations of students there".
Sherlon, a practising Christian, worships at Spanish Town Tabernacle Church. He intends to pursue a career in gospel singing and says he has already written a number of songs.
