Labourer charged with murder
Detectives assigned to the Westmoreland Police Division on Sunday arrested and charged a labourer with murder.
Odane Smith, 24, otherwise called 'Punce', or 'Damion', a labourer of Logwood district, Whithorn, in the parish, was charged with the murder of 29-year-old Patrick Parker, otherwise called 'Nahem', a construction worker of Water Works district, also in Whithorn.
Smith was also charged with murder, shooting with intent and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
Visiting family members
Reports from the Savanna-la-Mar police are that about 7:40 a.m., on Tuesday, June 16, Parker was visiting family members when he was pounced upon by Smith who shot him several times.
A man who was in close proximity heard explosions and went to investigate. On seeing Smith, he ran. Smith then chased him and fired several shots at him. However, the man managed to escape unhurt.
A report was made to the police, an investigation launched, and Smith arrested and placed before an identification parade where he was positively pointed out. Following an interview with his attorney, Smith was formally charged.
His court date is to be finalised.
