Kingston resident Davey Smith was extremely happy after he was declared a winner in The Gleaner & THE STAR Sweet Summer Money Promotion. Smith, 55, won the $20,000 prize after the serial number on his newspaper was selected in the first round draw.

"I am really glad I won," said Smith, who depends on The Gleaner for information. "I will use this money to help pay some bills," he said.

Smith said that he subscribed to The Gleaner six months ago "because I wanted to have easy access to the newspaper whenever I wanted".

The Sweet Summer Money competition requires readers to purchase a copy of The Gleaner or THE STAR print or epaper version. Each copy of the publication is assigned a serial number. If your assigned serial number is selected then you are a winner. Eight winners of $20,000 each are selected each week for the first four weeks.

The competition now enters its fifth and final week starting on Sunday. Two winners will each walk away with $100,000 each, plus a Samsung A30 mobile phone.
