Security Minister announces 96-hour curfew for central Clarendon

December 18, 2020

National Security Minister Dr Horace Chang, has announced a 96-hour curfew beginning at 5pm today, Friday December 18, for central Clarendon.

It will include the community of Effortville, where there have been five murders in the past 24 hours.

In a statement, Minister Chang said that over the last 48 hours, there has been an increase in incidents of violent criminal attacks, and murders in the parish as a result of  inter-gang warfare.

"I wish to assure all law abiding Clarendonians that these intensified measures are for their benefit. We are mindful that heavily armed brazen criminals are retaliating against each other, and are trying to instill fear and worry in your communities," the Minister said.

He reiterated that security forces will continue to pursue all leads to detain and interrupt all gangs.

Chang further urged residents to cooperate with the security forces, and speak up if they know something.
