215 new COVID cases, six more deaths

Jamaica on Wednesday recorded 215 new COVID-19 cases from 1,379 samples tested, increasing total confirmed cases to 86,722 with 29,175 being active.

The country's positivity rate is currently 18.1%.

Of the new cases, 126 are women and 89 are men with ages ranging from 33 days to 95 years.

Meanwhile, six more Jamaicans have died as a result of COVID-19, pushing the death tally to 2,059. 

The deaths which occurred between September 8 - October 12 include: a 73-year-old man from St Catherine and five persons from St Elizabeth, three men aged 90, 76, 65 and two women aged 82 and 75. 

In the meantime, there were 176 more recoveries, bringing that total to 54,895.

Some 393 persons are in hospital with 94 being moderately ill, 48 severley ill and 21 critically ill.
