Man beheaded in Gregory Park
The headless body of a man identified as Javahnie Ellis was found in a section of Gregory Park, St Catherine, called Mexico community on Saturday night.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Christopher Phillips, head of the St Catherine South Police Division, described the murder as a 'savage act.'
"The investigations continue, we are following all the leads we have at the moment," Phillips told THE STAR yesterday.
Community members theorised that 27-year-old Ellis may have been a victim of an internal conflict.
Gregory Park community has been torn by gang-related violence for some time, according to Phillips, and the police are putting in measures to curb the violence. A 48-hour curfew -- commencing on Saturday at 6 p.m. and ending at 6 p.m. today -- has been imposed in the community.
"We have been acting on intelligence and doing targeted operations in the area. The curfew now on in the area is a response to the intelligence," Phillips said.
