SRC records earthquakes in several Caribbean countries

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, Mar 7, CMC – Caribbean countries continue to be rattled by earthquakes over the past 48 hours with the Trinidad-based Seismic Research centre (SRC) of the University of the West Indies (UWI) noting that the latest tremor occurred on Monday night.

According to the SRC, the quake with a magnitude of 4.1 occurred at 8.47 pm (local time) and was felt in 75 kilometres (km) west in San Fernando,  south of the Trinidad and Tobago’s capital, as well as 81 km south west of the capital and 103 km south west of Arima, east of here.

The earthquake had a depth of 10km and there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries as a result.

The SRC also reported that at 9.27 pm (local time) on Sunday night, an earthquake with a magnitude 3.9 rattled Antigua and Barbuda, St.Kitts-Nevis and the French island opf Guadeloupe.

It said that the quake at a depth 10 km was felt 110 km north, north west of St. John’s, the Antigua capital, 113 km north east of Basseterre, the capital of St. Kitts-Nevis and 212 km, north, north west of Point-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe.
