Santa Cruz Primary crowned St Bess Volleyball champions

Santa Cruz Primary and Junior High School captured the St Elizabeth/Jamaica Volleyball Association (JaVA)/Phillip Greenland Developmental Volleyball Championship 2015 at home on Wednesday.

The event, now in its third year, was played in two legs with matches lasting 16 minutes.

Santa Cruz topped the four-team tournament, getting by outgoing champs Geneva Primary 36-29, 34-32 and newcomers Middle Quarters All Age 54-12, 42-18, to end with 15 points.

They also won one and lost the other against Quick Step Primary in last week's only two encounters.

Geneva earned 12 points for second place, with victories over Middle Quarters 58-6, 43-16 and Quick Step 38-24, 20-40; while Quick Step ended with six points for third, beating Middle Quarters 36-18. The return match was cancelled.

Santa Cruz's captain Chevoughn Duncan was voted most valuable player and Cavane Buchannan of Geneva earned the President's Maad Skills Award.

Both schools will represent the parish at the national finals on a date and venue to be decided.
