Simply the best in fine form
PHILIP FEANNY's filly, SIMPLY THE BEST, has a great draw and will run on la six for today's Pick-3 Super Challenge Trophy race at Caymanas Park.
Drawn at postposition seven in the nine-horse field for the second leg of the Supreme Ventures Limited Two-Year-Old Series, SIMPLY THE BEST is a half-sister to Superstakes winner FRANFIELD.
She debuted at 1100 metres, November 14, posting a snappy 1:06.3 with Ian Spence, who has been retained by Feanny for the 1400-metre Pick-3 Super Challenge.
SIMPLY THE BEST joins stablemate SORRENTINO'S STAR as two fillies the 14-time champion trainer has entered in the $3.6m race.
SORRENTINO'S STAR, who was fourth in last month's series-opening Cash Pot Only One For Me Trophy race at 1200 metres behind DREAMLINER, NUCLEAR AFFAIR and FUTURE KING.
However, she has been drawn at postposition three, a draw Feanny said he wished he could have reversed.
"I'd prefer were it the other way around, the slower horse you don't want her inside. Everybody will run to the rail and knock her out, so you prefer the quicker horse inside and the slower horse outside," he said.
"She is coming along nicely. She has worked reasonably well. She should get the distance on the father's side, not the mother," he noted.
SORRENTINO'S STAR had suffered interference in the stretch run of the Cash Pot Trophy but the incident did not attract the stewards' attention, much to Feanny's annoyance.
"I was pleased with her run but the winner turned her sideways and we didn't even have a stewards' enquiry," he said, naming Wayne DaCosta's DREAMLINER as the horse to beat again.
"The horse to beat is the horse who keeps beating them, DREAMLINER," he said.
SIMPLY THE BEST, Feanny said, had bled following an unsatisfactory exercise gallop on Monday.
