T&T star Cummings recovering from gunshot wound

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, (CMC):

Trinidad and Tobago international Keron Cummings is on the mend after suffering a gunshot wound to the leg.

The 27-year-old was returning to his Diego Martin residence in north-west Trinidad early on the morning of December 27, when he was attacked by a masked gunman outside his home.

Media reports said Cummings suffered a broken thigh bone and subsequently underwent surgery.

He paid a surprise visit to the national team's final training session earlier this week as they put the finishing touches on their preparation for their Copa America Centenario qualifier in Panama City.

"I just feel good being able to come back out and watch the boys before they head off to Panama," said Cummings who sported crutches.

Cummings has been a key member of the Soca Warriors side for the past year, playing a leading role in their campaigns in the CONCACAF Gold Cup and 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

The injury has come as a blow, ruling him out of upcoming fixtures.
