Reno's McLean to replace MBU's ace striker
Former Red Stripe Premier League champions Montego Bay United have brought in Jason McLean from Reno to bolster the club's firepower and to cover for the pending loss of their leading striker Dino Williams.
Williams is reportedly finalising a deal to move to Indy XL in the North American Soccer League (NASL).
Williams is the club's and Red Stripe Premier League's (RSPL) leading scorer with 14 goals this season. At Indy XL he will be reunited with Tim Hankinson who was coach at MBU during the first round of the RSPL 2015/2016 season.
Williams is among two or three players that the club expects to lose during the current transfer window and has been removed from the team roster pending the finalising of the transfer.
McLean meantime, is eagerly anticipating the move away from Reno and says he is not looking to fill Williams' boots but to help the club in whatever way he can.
"I think it is a well deserved move because moving from Reno to a club in the top four is a nice feeling," said the player who is returning from injury.
He believes he can make an immediate impact on MBU's push for the title this year.
"I think we have more than one player who can score. I am coming to help the team whichever way I can whether by assisting or scoring," he said.
In addition to McLean, the club is also bringing in young Donovan Brown from Petersfield High and another high school player whose identity is yet to be revealed. Club president Orville Powell said when arrangements have been finalised the player's name will be revealed.
"We have a minimum of nine home games coming up in short order and six away games so we really want to have a solid squad so we can have some rotations," said MBU President Orville Powell, who recently appointed former national striker Paul 'Tegat' Davis as head coach until at least the end of the season.
