Tivoli gets a lifelife
Tivoli Gardens scored another massive victory to pull further away from the relegation zone after scoring a 1-0 win over 10-man Portmore United at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex yesterday.
Rodico Wellington netted the game's only goal from the spot on 24 minutes to lift the west Kingston team to 32 points and from 10th to seventh in the table.
The goal was Wellington's third of the season, and the former Denham Town High Manning Cup player, who is in his third Premier League season, said that he is looking to fill the boots of the club's leading scorer this season, Junior Flemming, who left the island for an overseas contract recently.
He also praised coach Glendon 'Admiral' Bailey for helping to improve his game and said that yesterday's win put them in a great position to challenge for a top-four spot.
Tivoli's assistant coach, Damian Gordon, said that the win was a great boost to their cause, but insists that they will take it a game at a time as they are not out of the woods yet.
"We have to take it as a game- by-game situation. We have to look at the team below us, so we have to keep on winning points," he said.
In other games, UWI (38) held leaders MoBay (65) to a 1-1 draw; Reno (31) and Humble Lion (40) played to a 1-1 draw.
Boys' Town and Cavalier played to a 0-0 draw.
