Henry performs well at the Peru International

April 18, 2016

Jamaica's top badminton men's singles player, Gareth Henry, performed well last week in the XXI Peru International 2016.

Henry, whose current world ranking is 193, reached the round of 16, where he was defeated by Austria's David Obernosterer (runner-up in our recent Jamaica International 2016), in two sets 21-13, 21-17.

Following a week of training in Peru, in the PanAm Confederation-sponsored training programme for elite badminton players, Henry competed in the XXI Peru International.

PanAm Director of Development German Valdez had the following observation.

"Personally, I am very happy with Gareth's performance in training, attitude during camp, and effort. Also, in free time, he was doing some schoolwork to send back ... this is good! Mature and responsible. In tournament, he had good performance winning an important match yesterday and today, playing fine ... maybe (he) could have gone to three games, but all around he played good, and can tell you I am very happy to have brought him to the camp. Let's see what there is in the future for him."
