EDMONTON, Ontario (CMC):

Jamaican Shamaree Muir continued to make waves in his debut international season when he rode a double on the eight-race card at Northlands Park here Saturday.

The 21-year-old took race one over six furlongs with 2-1 chance Live a Little before following up in race eight over 1300 metres with victory aboard 9-1 choice Long Time Don.

Muir, a two-time champion apprentice back in his homeland, lies sixth on 33 wins in the season due to wrap up October 22.

Five-time defending champion Rico Walcott, who won just once on the day's card, tops the jockeys standings with 86 a whopping 40 clear of Trinidadian Keishan Balgobin.

Jamaican Dane Nelson sits third on 45 wins with multiple-time former champion, Barbadian Quincy Welch, one back in fourth.

Muir opened his account by piloting the seven-year-old chestnut gelding Live a Little to a commanding seven-length victory over the three-year-old and upwards, in a three-horse contest.

He trailed early on but made good progress to eventually dominate the stretch run.
