Peddlar scores birthday save
Maverley-Hughenden FC's captain Andrew Peddlar celebrated his birthday with a goal that rescued his team against Tivoli Gardens in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) match-day six at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex yesterday.
The game ended in 1-1 draw. Tevin Shaw sent Tivoli ahead when he converted past Maverley-Hughenden goalkeeper Nicholas Campbell in the 15th minute. Peddlar, who played in the full-back position, levelled for his team when he beat Tivoli's veteran custodian Edsel Scott with a beautiful strike from about 35 yards in the 20th minute.
It was a heated game which saw a red card and five yellow card issued. Maverley's Nicholas Scott received a red card in the 78th minute that reduced his team to 10 players.
Peddlar who netted his first goal in the new season was overjoyed to have scored on his special day.
"I told myself that I wanted to score today, and it happen so I am very happy for that," Peddlar told THE STAR.
"When I saw that Robbie (Scott) was out of position, I took a shot and it paid off. We came for three points, but got one on the road and that is good," he added.
"Our next game is against Waterhouse in a derby one and we will go there for a win," the captain also said.
Meanwhile, Humble Lion took over the lead in the 12-team RSPL edging Montego Bay United 2-1 at Effortville Community Centre in Clarendon. Humble Lion moved on top on 12 points, while MBU remained on nine points.
Previous leaders Jamalco went down 1-0 to Boys' Town. Arnett Gardens moved onto second position on 10 points following a 2-0 win against Portmore United at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
Tivoli inched to seven points from five games, while Maverley-Hughenden moved to six points.
