She's A Maneater should chew up the competition

IT could be a matter of who blinks first in tomorrow's Cash Pot Trophy when three of the most impressive two-year-olds seen so far clash at 1200 metres.

Champion trainer Wayne DaCosta's filly, SHE'S A MANEATER, jumps off the pages of the form book as the near money-back favourite she turned out to be on debut nearly a 14-length winner at 1100 metres, clocking 1:05.3, a time any grade-one horse would die for.

She's bred in the purple, a daughter of AHWHOFAH, the 2009 Horse of the Year, who also threw ALI BABA, last year's 2000 Guineas winner.

However, Richard Azan's MONEY MAGNET should not be taken for granted. She raced a day after SHE'S A MANEATER's smashing debut on what was her third start. Running with lasix administered, MONEY MAGNET turned the tables on VERY CLASSIC, who had handed her a shock loss following her five-length victory on debut.

Looking strictly at both horses' final times for 1100 metres, SHE'S A MANEATER comes out head and shoulders above MONEY MAGNET, 1:05.3 to 1:06.2, a fifth shy of a full second four lengths in most handicappers' books.

However, the splits of the races tell a different tale. MONEY MAGNET was travelling two-fifths faster than SHE'S A MANEATER for the first three furlongs of her race, pressed by DaCosta's MR UNIVERSE, a horse who had won on debut 15 days earlier, streaking home nine lengths clear of rivals.

MONEY MAGNET's half-mile split, 45.4, was also quicker than SHE'S A MANEATER's 46.0, suggesting DaCosta's runner had less to do for the first four furlongs, hence her being able to run away and clock a faster time than Azan's filly.

Both horses came up with 58.3 for five furlongs, which, for MONEY MAGNET, was really good, considering her early splits were faster than SHE'S A MANEATER's. That, in part, explained her slower final time.

How the race pans out will determine who blinks first. From the look of things, round one of the Supreme Ventures Two-Year-Old Series, the Cash Pot Trophy, will go to SHE'S A MANEATER, primarily because she has stablemates such as MR UNIVERSE and ARMAGEDDON to keep MONEY MAGNET busy enough for her to stalk and pounce.
