Freddie Smith funeral tomorrow
Veteran sportswriter Freddie Smith who passed away at his Duhaney Park home on Sunday, November 27, will be buried tomorrow.
Smith who was 78, retired five years ago after writing a sports column for The Boulevard News for a number of years.
Prior to his stint at The News, Smith was cricket writer for The Gleaner from the late sixties until the early 1980s, covering numerous Test matches at Sabina Park.
According to his close friend Ben Brodie, Smith had a special love for cricket, a love inspired by legendary sportswriter Jack Anderson, who preceded him in cricket coverage for the STAR newspaper.
For his contribution to journalism, Smith was honoured by the Press Association of Jamaica at its annual Veterans' Day luncheon in 2003.
The funeral service for Smith will take place at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Constant Spring Road.
