Speaking as patron at yesterday's 19th Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run launch, London 2012 Olympic Games silver medallist Yohan Blake, called on support for the charitable event, while imploring everyone to come out and make the event a record statement run.

This year's run/walk is slated for Sunday, February 19, starting at 7:30 a.m. under the theme 'Run for the fun, donate for the cause.'

It was launched at the Spanish Town Hotel in New Kingston, where Blake' gave an emotional appeal.

"I like to speak from the heart because that's where my blessings come from, and when Sagicor asked me to do this, I answered like Schools' Challenge Quiz. I had to do it," he said.

Full support

Blake believes this year's beneficiaries - Spanish Town Hospital Paediatric Unit, Mandeville Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Bethlehem Home, operated by Missionaries of the Poor - should be given full support.

"It's a miracle that God is working through Sagicor to have a heart for these kids because most of these children can hardly walk.

"I want everyone to come out because this is going to be a record statement run. We are not just going to sit here and being pretty, we are going to go out there and we are going to raise more than that Jamaican $60 million," he said.

Blake, international recording artiste Tessanne Chin, and Missionaries of the Poor founder Father Richard Ho Lung are working as patrons to raise the funds for the respective organisations.

Sagicor has set out to raise $60 million from the event for the three beneficiaries. They are hoping to attract about 25,000 participants.

Welcome sponsors

Chairman of Sagicor Group Jamaica and Sagicor Foundation R. Danny Williams called it a pleasure to welcome sponsors, supporters and patrons to another launch of this great initiative - the Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run 2017.
