Bolt, Thompson tipped for RJR Sports Foundation top awards

Triple Olympic Games champion Usain Bolt and Olympic Games 100m and 200m champion Elaine Thompson are favoured to win this evening's RJR Sports Foundation's Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year Awards for 2016.

Bolt is in line for his sixth award while Thompson would be winning it for the first time after a stellar year.

The pair are the top of eight nominees for the awards. Bolt is one of three male and Thompson is one of five female nominees.

The other male nominees are Olympic 110m hurdles and World Indoor Championships 60 metre hurdles champion Omar McLeod as well as West Indies cricketer Marlon Samuels.

The remaining female nominees are track stars Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson, swimmer Alia Atkinson, and female cricketer Stafanie Taylor.

In addition, four performances have been nominated for the People's Choice Award.

They are Alia Atkinson for her world record breaking 50 metre breaststroke; Michael Binn's 73rd-minute goal in the Red Stripe Premier League; Christopher Taylor's mind-boggling run at last year's Boys & Girls' championships 4x400m final;, and Elaine Thompson's 200m run at the Olympic Games.
