Hotels getting the Champs bounce
From small one-stay motels to high end four-star hotels, Kingston's occupancy levels were reported at nearly 100 per cent while some were even over-booked ahead of this week's Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association Boys & Girls' Athletics Championships which run from today through Saturday at the National Stadium.
The Roosevelt Guest House, a small bare-minimum facility on Latham Avenue, approximately 500 metres from the National Stadium reported to STAR Sports that only 10 of its 47 rooms were available as of Monday but was expecting more guests this week for the Championships.
Some school teams usually use the facility as their home base for the week of championships and this year is no different. The rooms at the hotel cost $3,100 (per night) and $4,400 upwards. The more expensive rooms are fitted with air conditioners while the others have fans.
The mid-range Altamont Court, in New Kingston with its 58 rooms and priced at a low of US$110 including breakfast, was heavily subscribed and was actually over-booked for Thursday.
At the other end of the price spectrum the Spanish Court Hotel on St Lucia Avenue, with its cheapest room costing US$199 was also fully booked this week with more guests expected on the weekend.
