Confident and composed, Immaculate High's Class Two shot putter Danielle Sloley, stunned her rivals to win the girls' Class Two shot put event at the annual Boys and Girls' Championships yesterday.

Sloley threw 14.73 metres to beat Rusea's High's Aliesha Shaw (14.51m) and Holmwood's Shaday Hudson (13.93m), but despite competing in her first final in three years in the sport, Sloley never doubted her ability to get the win on Wednesday.

"I was in third place going into the final but it didn't discourage me at all. I knew what I was supposed to do ... what my coaches trained me for," she told STAR Sports after her first Champs victory.

She admitted that the final round was a bit tense.

"It wasn't difficult but there was a lot of pressure ... but I didn't let it get to me. I told myself that I could do it. And once you tell yourself that you can, even though you have never done it before, there is no one to stop you," she added.

I have been doing it since I entered high school three years ago.. And this is my first final and my first medal ever.

"Words can't express how I feel, I just have to give God thanks."
