Field attack! - Edwin Allen plot stronger 2018
... Edwin Allen plot stronger 2018
Edwin Allen field coach, Jermaine Phipps, has revealed that the reigning champions will be going all out to strike a balance in field events and on the track, which he considers crucial to their continued dominance of Girl's Champs.
The Frankfield, Clarendon based institution copped a fourth consecutive title last weekend and Phipps, the throwing events coach noted that field events combined to contribute around 40 points to their overall point total of 304.5 points.
"We have the more all-round team, good in track and field, and in field events," said Phipps, adding that while the school will lose a few athletes it will not be weaker.
"We will not be weaker. We will be strong again, working on shot put all classes, and discus and balance our track strength with field events, once we do that, we will maintain our dominance," he said.
"We start Champs each year looking for about 50 points from the field events, although this year we probably got around 40, the strength of the team is sprints and middle distance, but we want to have a balance," he outlined.
He is of the view that the team is a little average in the field but is hoping to come back stronger in Class One, Two and Three as well as in all classes of discus.
According to Phipps, Edwin's mix of field events and tracking excellence will equip them to remain number one.
"We will be hoping to dominate another five or six years," the coach added.
