The University of the West Indies said it will establish a Faculty of Sporton all its five campus as part of its five-year strategic plan.

The proposal comes from the Executive Management Team of the campuses after receiving endorsement during the planning sessions that produced the University's New Five Year Strategic Plan, 2017-2022.

The UWI now offers academic programmes at the certificate, bachelor, masters, and doctorate levels at the three landed campuses in sports medicine, applied science-biomechanics and kinetics-Psychology, law, counselling and coaching, performance culture, tourism, and management.

Collaborative teaching and learning arrangements exist with dozens of universities all over the world.

The Faculty of Sports will bring rational and effective leadership to this diversity of offerings while building out the capacity on each campus.

The new Faculty could be a direct competitor to several other local institutions which offer degrees in Sport, namely the University of Technology and the GC Foster College of Physical Education and Sport.
