Ramgeet crowned champion in Arizona
Jamaican Andrew Ramgeet was crowned champion jockey at Turf Paradise despite going winless in four rides on Sunday's season-ending eight-race card.
He ended on 107 wins, eight clear of David Lopez, to seal his first title at the southwestern United States racetrack in only his second season.
Ramgeet also topped the money list with US$995,979 (J$128,481,291). The seasoned rider finished third last season behind then champion Scott Stevens after moving from his usual stomping grounds at Mountaineer Park in West VirginIa.
Ramgeet's hopes of celebrating his maiden title with at least a victory were dashed when he could only produce a best of second in race two and race five.
Going 6-1/2 furlongs in race two, he was the runner up aboard favourite Rhetorical, finishing nearly four lengths behind winner Migiwewin.
In race five over six furlongs, Ramgeet narrowly missed out, with odds-on bet Trust Santiago, finishing half-length behind 3-1 choice Magpie Jimmie.
Ramgeet was third in the day's opener with favourite Eleven Zip going a mile and sixteenth and was fourth in race four over a mile with 2-1 chance Unbridled Torch as his son Andre Ramgeet took the wire first with 3-1 bet Stratton.
Ramgeet finished down the standings with 21 wins from 253 rides.
The campaign lasted nearly seven months after starting in October last year.
