Cavalier to meet Rivoli in mouth-watering play-off
The Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) play-off qualifiers begin this Sunday with the two favourites, Rivoli United and Cavalier, squaring off in a mouth-watering affair at Prison Oval at 3 p.m.
Sandals South Coast will play Priory of St Ann in the other game.
Former RSPL campaigners Rivoli and Cavalier are plotting a speedy return to the top flight.
Rivoli contested the play-offs thrice and have never failed to progress. Despite finishing fourth in the South Central Confed Super League standings, the St Catherine club beat table-toppers Tru-Juice 1-0 and 2-0 in the semi-finals, before stopping Sporting Central Academy 2-0 in the final on the back of a Jeremy Nelson brace.
Coached by the experienced Anthony Thompson, Rivoli have seasoned Premier League players in AndrE Hutton and Kenny Lee, among others.
Cavalier cruised through the KSAFA Super League, winning the title with little trouble after defeating Santos 2-1 for the crown. They have, however, lost captain and leading scorer Ryan Miller over a financial dispute.
The team will now rely on the skills of Alex Marshall, Nicholas Hamilton, Keiron Brock and Oshane Jenkins.
Meanwhile, for two previous seasons, Sandals South Coast, formerly Sandals Whitehouse, faltered at the semi-final stage of the Western Confed Super League. Under the continued stewardship of former national goalkeeper, Aaron Lawrence, the hoteliers overcame that
hurdle and defeated MoBay Boys' Club 4-3 for the title.
Their opponents, Priory, are no newcomers. They have a rich history as Volvo United and have played in the Premier League in the past.
The St Ann side have taken their recruiting seriously and have drawn in former Premier League players Donovan Hinds, David Boswell, Carlos Barrett and Maurico Gordon.
