Romario Williams overtook fellow Jamaican Dane Kelly as the United Soccer League's leading marksman this season when he fired a double to lead Charleston Battery to a 6-1 rout of Toronto FC II last weekend.

The 22-year-old scored in either half on Saturday as Battery charged to their second win in three outings to extend their lead at the top of the Eastern Conference standings.

Playing at home at the MUSC Health Stadium, Charleston raced to a 2-0 lead at half-time, thanks to strikes from Williams and Forrest Lasso.

Excellent save

Williams, denied in the second minute of the game from close range by an excellent save from goalkeeper Angelo Cavalluzzo, opened the scoring in the 31st minute when he nodded home Maikel Chang's right-sided corner.

And Lasso added the second three minutes from time when he capitalised on Toronto FC's ability to clear Justin Portillo's left-sided corner, and slotted home from close range.

Williams came close to adding a second in stoppage time but his goal-bound left-footed drive was palmed away by a diving Cavalluzzo.

The floodgates then opened in the second half, with Williams completing his brace in the 50th minute. Dante Marini threaded a pass into the box and Williams skillfully turned and beat his defender and nudged past Cavalluzzo.

For Williams, it was his 13th goal of the season, overtaking Kelly who remained on 12.
