Nelson double leads Caribbean domination
Tyrone Nelson won twice to lead several Caribbean successes on the mid-week card at Assiniboia Downs here Wednesday.
The 32-year-old Jamaican starred in race four with victory aboard Pacific Tsunami before following up in race seven by guiding She Be Fast to the wire.
Nelson was joined by fellow Jamaicans Chavion Chow and Richard Mairs along with Trinidadian Stanley Chadee Jr and Barbadian Antonio Whitehall, all of whom found themselves in the winner's enclosure.
Riding on the seven-race card, Nelson was forced to wait until the day's fourth race before tasting success when he guided 11-year-old chestnut gelding Pacific Tsunami to a 1-1/4 length win over the three-year-old and upwards.
Going seven furlongs, Nelson stalked as Red Kolo Cup and Antioch Native dueled before rousing the gelding on the final turn and storming through the lane.
His second victory came in a six-furlong trip aboard the five-year-old mare She Be Fast, edging the three-year-old and upward fillies and mares by three-quarters of a length in a gate-to-wire effort.
The pair were under pressure from Bluegrass Soul throughout but held well in the final stages.
