'Turtle' scores in heavy loss
NEW YORK (CMC):
Jamaican Owayne 'Omar' Gordon, also known as 'Turtle', scored his first goal on his sixth start for San Antonio FC since joining on loan last month, but it was proved in vain as they crashed to a 5-2 defeat to Swope Park Rangers in the United Soccer League last weekend.
The 25-year-old was on target in the 20th minute, levelling for San Antonio after Nansel Selbol had scored the first of his two goals from the spot in the 11th minute to hand Rangers the lead.
Turks and Caicos forward Billy Forbes picked out Gordon on the left-side of the box from over on the right, and the Reggae Boyz striker produced a clinical left-footed finish at the near post from nine yards.
The game, played at Children's Mercy Victory Field in Kansas City, remained even until half-time when the floodgates opened.
Felipe Hernandez doubled the lead for the hosts in the first minute after the interval before Selbol stretched the advantage with his second goal of the night in the 62nd minute.
Kharlton Belmar made it 4-1 three minutes later and Max Rugova came off the bench in the 77th minute to get on the scoresheet in the 80th.
Forbes buried a consolation goal five minutes from the end - his eighth of the season - to take some of the shine off the hosts' impressive win.
At the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex, Jamaican Jason Johnson came off the bench to score and help propel Rising Phoenix to a 2-0 victory over Real Monarchs.
The hosts led 1-0 at half-time through Sam Hamilton's 29th- minute strike before Johnson added a second in the 73rd - two minutes after entering the game.
