Wolmer's seek to rebound from Friday's loss

Kingston High's Vialli Campbell (left) challenges Rajeoux Baines of Wolmer's Boys during their ISSA/FLOW Manning Cup Game played at Wolmer's Boys football field on September 15.

Wolmer's Boys will seek to rebound from their first defeat last Friday in this year's ISSA/Flow Manning Cup football competition when they face struggling Kingston High at Breezy Castle field today at 3:30 p.m.

The Rudolph Speid-coached Wolmer's went down 1-2 to rising Haile Selassie in Group A, making a wide open race for second round berths.

Wolmer's remain on top in the group on 16 points, closely followed by Tivoli Gardens on 14, Haile Selassie (13); Pembroke Hall (6); Kingston High (4), and bottom placed Innswood (1).

With the battle for the two automatic second round places intense, Wolmer's, who defeated Kingston High 5-0 in the team's first game on September 15, will be looking for another big win today.

Wolmer's attack will be led by captain and striker Rivaldo English and Shamar McLean.

Kingston High are out of contention but eyes should be on their smallest play, winger Phillando Wing, a confident 13-year-old who is not afraid to take on the big boys.

Tivoli, the only undefeated team in the group, are expected to get the better of win-less Innswood. Haile Selassie, who are quietly making a mark in the group should have an easy time against Pembroke Hall. This is the first meeting for the teams after the first round was postponed due to heavy rain on September 15.

In Group B, shaping up to be the toughest, reigning champions Jamaica College and Bridgeport will face-off in a crucial clash. The teams battled to a 1-1 draw on September 15 and another competitive fixture is anticipated. St Andrew Technical High should get the better of Papine and Mona are expected to beat Donald Quarrie.
