Bonucci can't defend - Capello

December 27, 2017

Italian coach Fabio Capello does not believe that Milan and Italy star Leonardo Bonucci can defend.

"He's great with the ball at his feet, but he can't defend," said Capello, while assessing the high-profile defender.

The former Juventus centre-back has struggled since his controversial EU42m transfer to San Siro this summer.

Capello, a former Juventus player and manager, considers Bonucci one of the world's best as a passer of the football, but was quite critical of his ability to actually defend.

"Bonucci is the best Italian defender with the ball at his feet, in fact one of the best three in the world," Capello said.

"There's a big problem, though: he can't defend. He had the ideal situation at Juventus when he played as a sweeper. He is perfect in a three-man defence, but struggles when there are four."
