Good performances at STETHS Invitational
The 2018 western track and field championships is gearing up to be a cracker after serving up a healthy appetiser on Saturday at the St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) Invitational track and field meet held at the STETHS Sports Complex.
STETHS, the 2017 Western Champs girls champions, put in a good performance on their home soil but hardly noticed as the 2017 Girls Champs winners, Edwin Allen High School, and runner-up Hydel High School outclassed and matched the Santa Cruz-based team.
On the boys' side, the hosts didn't have any of the Corporate Area giants to contest with. However, Petersfield High School, who finished third in the 2017 Western Champs, showed up and spoiled their party in the field events and took one of the featured events.
Rhodes Hall High School also sounded the alarm, taking the boys 400m Class One with Rovane Williams (49.89) and Radcliffe Burrell placing third in 50.04.
They later clocked 3:21.74 in the Boys 4x400m relay Open to place third behind Petersfield High A (3:17.41) and Edwin Allen A (3:19.71).
The girls' equivalent was won by Edwin Allen A in 3:49.19, followed by Hydel A (3:50.04) and Petersfield High A (3:51.98).
The boys 4x800m relay Open was won by the host, STETHS A (7:55.41). Maggotty High A (8:22.33) and Edwin Allen A (8:50.43) followed.
Petersfield's Shamar Pearce (58.13) took the boys 400m hurdles Class Two and under ahead of Jordani Woodley (59.52) of Rusea's High School.
Petersfield's national representative Shaquena Foote (4:46.37) got the better of Edwin Allen's pair of Kayan Green (4:51.74) and Jeniel Jones (5:03.03) in the girls 1500m Class Two.
