You've got to be in it to win it - MoBay blast into top six
Orville Powell looks set to prove his theory that amassing most points in the Premier League is a fool's paradise after his Montego Bay United, for the first time since week one of this season, have broken into the top six, giving them as good a chance as any to win the title via the quarter-finals and semi-finals knockout route.
Montego Bay beat Reno 2-1 on Sunday, catapulting themselves into the play-off zone, making president Powell appear a genius after his bold prediction in December that his team would win the league despite being positioned in eighth place and struggling to string back-to-back victories together.
Sunday's victory has had Powell buzzing with excitement that his boys will back-up his comments.
"We are in contention, so it doesn't matter where we are playing from as long as we are in the play-offs and we have a chance," Powell said.
Powell was cautious though, saying fifth place was not safe. Montego Bay are only four points ahead of the 10th-place team, Humble Lion, with five games remaining in the regular season.
"We do not want to get overly confident or change anything that we are doing right now. We just want to focus on what we are doing and know that there is still a lot of work to be done," Powell said. "The goal remains the same and it is within our reach. It is only a matter of time for people to see what we are talking about."
Montego Bay will take on third-place Tivoli Gardens, away, in their next match at the Edward Seaga Complex.
