RSPL Player of the Month (January): 'Hard work and dedication' - Devon Haughton
Waterhouse's first choice goalkeeper, Diego Haughton's heroics in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) in the month of January has earned him the coveted STAR Player of the Month Award.
Haughton was outstanding in his club's six games over the period, where he kept five clean sheets and helped to put Waterhouse in contention for a top six finish at the completion of the preliminary stage and a push for the RSPL Championship.
"It is just hard work and dedication, coming to training and putting in the work. My team-mates are driving me right through," Haughton said.
"At the start of the season, the Waterhouse supporters were not pleased because they knew what I am capable of doing. It was a bit of pressure but that is expected from spectators. I had a slight little injury but spent some time in the gym and came back stronger," he added.
"I have also been working hard with coach (Leighton) Murray, who is the goalkeeper trainer. Waterhouse have a great unit, coaches, management and everybody," Haughton shared.
With regards to the influence of coach Donovan Duckie, who joined the team last November, Haughton was full of praise.
"Duckie is the best teacher of the game (in Jamaica), not the best coach. Everything is going well, we will make the top six and win the title, nothing less," he added. Haughton also is working hard towards a call up in the national senior team.
"I think I will get a call-up to the national team this season. That is my hope and dream. I am having an outstanding season far, with nine games and only two goals scored against me. I am working hard same way I know that one day, I will get a lookin," the 27 year-old strongly stated.
