Barbican in pole position for mid-season final
Barbican need to avoid defeat against Pembroke Hall to advance to the Magnum/Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Super League mid-season final when the teams clash today at Pembroke Hall High at 3 p.m.
The Barbican team are on top in Zone A on 15 points, following four wins and three drawn encounters from seven games. They are three points ahead of second place Molynes (12) in the battle for the mid-season final spot from the group.
A draw for Barbican would push them into the spot. However, Molynes must win against Real Mona and hope that Barbican lose.
"We compete to win every game and tomorrow won't be any different. We are going there to play good football and hope that at the end of the day, we come away with a positive result," coach of Barbican, David Lalor told STAR Sports yesterday.
Barbican will rely on players such as Andrew Christie, the team's leading goal scorer on four goals, captain Ramone McGregor, goalkeeper Nicholas Campbell and Mario McDonald for victory.
However, although Pembroke Hall is out of contention, they will look to protect home turf. The Everald Campbell-coached team are on nine points and will look for full points to move closer in the zone.
In Zone B, it is a tight battle with Mountain View, Browns Town and Central Kingston all on 12 points apiece. Mountain View who are ahead on a better goal difference have an easier path as they face last placed Santos, while Central Kingston and Browns Town will battle in another game.
