Thomas's replacement at Excelsior to be named soon
Xavier Gilbert, Excelsior High School's sportsmaster, said that a head coach for the Manning Cup team would be named soon.
The post was made vacant when Shavar Thomas decided back in February that he would be moving on.
Thomas is now an assistant coach to his brother, Alex, at Wolmer's Boys' School.
In light of that, there have been several applicants for the job.
"The process to find a coach will soon be completed. It will happen in a couple weeks. We are looking at three candidates for the job," Gilbert said , without hinting who are the candidates.
However, STAR Sports understands that Jahmiah Pettigrew, who was an assistant coach at the school last year, is the front-runner for the job at the Mountain View Avenue-based institution.
When quizzed as to the reason Thomas left after being in charge for two years, Gilbert said: "I am disappointed. There were some issues that he (Thomas) was not satisfied with," he said.
In an article published in STAR Sports on April 14, Thomas said that he simply just wanted to work alongside his brother.
"I handed in my resignation from February. I am no longer coaching at Excelsior. I had no problem at Excelsior. I just wanted a change.
"I am officially at Wolmer's as an assistant to my brother. Alex is more experienced as a coach than I am. He has won more titles than me," he said at the time.
