'One of my best goals ever' - Dzeko highlights stunning volley against Torino
Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko described his audacious match-winning volley against Torino as one of the best goals in his career after securing a hard-fought win for Roma in their Serie A opener at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino in northern Italy yesterday.
Roma new boy Justin Kluivert, son of Dutch great Patrick Kluivert, sealed his Serie A debut with an assist on the play, after wriggling free from a couple of defenders before floating a cross to the backpost where Dzeko met it with an impressive volley into the far post.
"It was a difficult game, as it always is here with Torino, as they caused us problems in the past, too. We struggled a little, but when we suffer, we do it all together," Dzeko said after the game, which saw a Torino goal called back after a VAR review for offside.
"I saw Kluivert on the right and hoped he would cross it to the back post, which is fortunately what he did! I didn't have time to think. There were so many players in the box, I wouldn't have had time to take a touch. We were right at the end, I had to go for it," added Dzeko.
"I think it was one of my top three career goals. I had one not dissimilar last season, perhaps that one was better, but this was more important," said Dzeko, who also heaped praise on his 19-year-old teammate.
"Kluivert is great because he can play on the right or left, it makes no difference to him."
Roma will host Atalanta next Monday in their next assignment, while Torino will travel to Milan to face Internazionale in their next match on Sunday.
