I deserve Ballon d'Or' - Griezmann
French striker Antoine Griezmann believes he has done enough to be in the running for this year's Ballon d'Or.
Griezmann, who finished third in 2016, insists that his success in lifting the World Cup this summer as well as the Europa League, and UEFA Super Cup with Atletico Madrid, should get him on the podium.
Ronaldo and Messi have been constants in the Ballon d'Or over the past 10 years, and while CR7 is expected to again feature this year after helping Real Madrid to the Champions League title, there are signs the Frenchman might be overlooked.
Croatian skipper Luka Modric won the UEFA Best Player award, while Griezmann was not named as the top three nominees for FIFA Player of the Year award.
"Comparing 2016 and this year, for me I have to be in the top three," said Griezmann. "In 2016, I lost two finals and was in the top three. This time I have won three finals."
"I have won three trophies, stood out at decisive moments, but it is not me who votes."
Griezmann said it would be special to break Ronaldo and Messi'a dominance.
"I think about it, especially the closer I get to it. The Ballon d'Or is a prestigious award, and it is the highest you can go as a player. There are trophies in your league, in the World Cup, the Euro, but it's not the same," he said.
Asked about the FIFA snub, Griezmann said: "It's bizarre, and a shame. It is a trophy given out by FIFA, isn't it?
"And the World Cup is organised by FIFA, right? We win the World Cup, and there is no French player there. That is their choice but it is surprising that there is no world champion."
